  • J. Kim Fennell, President and Chief Executive Officer

    J. Kim Fennell

    Kim Fennell joined deCarta as President and Chief Executive Officer in May, 2004, bringing more than 25 years of experience in high technology. Prior to deCarta, he was President and CEO of Pinnacle Systems (NASDAQ: PCLE) where he led the company through record growth to $330 million in revenue and expanded its market reach through several strategic acquisitions. He previously served as CEO of StorageWay, a VC-financed data storage service provider.

    Earlier, he was a corporate vice president at Lucent Technologies with responsibility for the Communications Applications Group, a $2 billion Business Unit focused on CRM, and Messaging. He then helped spin-off Avaya from Lucent in 2000 as part of the Avaya executive team.

    Kim was an early executive at Octel Communications in 1986, which was later acquired by Lucent in 1997. At Octel, he established and ran several key divisions in succession including Canada, Europe/Middle East/Africa and then all International Operations. Prior to Octel he held sales and marketing management positions at ROLM and Burroughs (now Unisys). Kim is a graduate of Queen's University at Kingston, Ontario, Canada and the Stanford Executive Program.

  • Michael Cottle, Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Professional Services

    Michael Cottle

    Mike joined deCarta in 2005 and has over 26 years of successful sales experience in the software and Internet industries - 14 of those at the Vice President level - leading worldwide sales and distribution channels. Prior to joining deCarta, Mike was Vice President of Sales for Digital Chocolate, a leading developer of mobile applications and games. Mike was Vice President of Worldwide Sales with HearMe, a developer of VOIP and Internet Infrastructure software technology where he led the company's worldwide sales team to successive quarters of revenue growth and to a successful IPO. Mike has also held VP positions with companies such as Markmonitor, MultiGen, Inc, Strategic Mapping Inc. and MapInfo as well as sales and sales management positions at Sybase, Interleaf and Xerox Corporation. Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Dallas.

  • Brian MacDonald, Vice President, Mobile Business Development

    Brian MacDonald

    Brian joined deCarta in 2009, bringing almost 20 years of marketing and sales experience in the telecommunications industry. Prior to deCarta, Brian was VP, Worldwide Sales and Distribution at mywaves, selling video content and mobile advertising to mobile operators and handset OEMs around the world. Prior to joining mywaves, Brian was VP, Carrier Sales, at Danger and responsible for the deal with T-Mobile US that launched the highly successful “T-Mobile Sidekick” consumer handset. He has also held executive roles at Netcom and iPass, focusing on marketing and sales of data services to major international operators. Earlier, Brian spent several years in Europe as a management consultant at BMS (now Cap Gemini), and later as CEO of a UK-based software company, which he sold to Lotus/IBM in 1994. Brian holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Political Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and did several years of graduate work in Political Theory at Georgetown and Oxford universities. Brian is also co-author of a patent for dynamically managing contact and presence information in a multi-modal environment.

  • Richard Poppen, Vice President, Chief Technology Officer.

    Richard Poppen

    Rich joined deCarta in 1997 as its first non-founding employee. Rich holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Pomona College and a master's degree in mathematics from Stanford University, and has more than 34 years' experience in the development and analysis of mathematical algorithms, including 15 years in the digital mapping and navigation industries. Rich holds nine patents. He also serves on the board of trustees of The Good Shepherd Fund.

  • Michael Seifert, Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

    Michael Seifert

    Mike brings nearly 30 years of financial experience to deCarta. He has served as deCarta's CFO since December 2008. Before deCarta, Mike was CFO and interim CFO at Xceive Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from February 2006 to December 2008. Before Xceive, Mike was CFO at Virage Logic (NASD: VIRL) and earlier at Southwall Technologies Inc.'s (NASD: SWTX). Prior to joining Southwall, Mike was CFO of Sitesmith, Inc. and was instrumental in its sale to Metromedia Fiber Networks for $1.4 Billion in October 2000. Mike has held other senior financial management positions in the high-technology industry, including CFO of SmartDB Corporation, CFO of Wayfarer Communications (sold to Vantive, now Oracle, NASD: ORCL), Vice-president of Finance at Compression Labs, Inc., (sold to VTEL Corporation, NASD: FORG) and corporate controller at PMC-Sierra (NASD: PMCS). Mike also spent 10 years at Ernst & Young, where he became a senior manager and principal in the firm's San Jose, California office. Since 1991, he has led private and public equity, debt and merger transactions totaling approximately $1.6 billion. Mike is a magna cum laude graduate of Santa Clara University with a B.S. degree in Commerce with a major in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant. Mike also serves on the boards of directors of AWR Corporation and WaitonMe.

  • Don Weigel, Vice President, Product Development

    Don Weigel

    Don is responsible for engineering and product management at deCarta, and has more than 20 years experience in geospatial/location technologies. Prior to joining deCarta in 2007, he was Director of Business Development for Autodesk's geospatial division where he led major product and market development initiatives contributing to the company's record growth and leadership position in the telco/utilities/government geospatial markets, and #2 position among geospatial software providers worldwide. He joined Trimble in 2001 as Director of Marketing to start the Mobile Solutions Division where he built and launched an integrated SaaS, hardware, and wireless services platform for location-based services, telematics, and mobile resource management. At ESRI he held various executive positions during an 11 year span in which the company grew ten-fold to become the world's 4th largest privately held software company. Prior to ESRI he was a GIS programmer/analyst. Don has a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and International Affairs from Lewis and Clark College, and did graduate studies at Cornell University in City and Regional Planning with emphasis on regional science and GIS.
