Developer Zone Demos

deCarta's Developer Zone provides several full-featured map and local search sample applications, some of which are accessible for demo purposes without a Developer Zone account. Additional sample applications and sample code "snippets" are available to Dev Zone users.

AJAX Local Search Sample Application

This sample application demonstrates the map tiling functionality of deCarta's DDS Web Services. One of the key features is the ability to change the style or look and feel of the map on the fly. It also showcases the points of interest (POI) search capability available with DDS Web Services. The POI data is provided by either NAVTEQ or Tele Atlas, depending on the service configuration of the Dev Zone account.

The application also implements the following functionality:

  • Basic geocoding to generate a map
  • Basic routing to generate map and directions
  • Dragging the map
  • Double clicking to re-center the map
  • Clicking on POI listing to re-center the map
  • Moving the map with arrow keys
  • Show XML request and response code
  • Toggle tile grid outline on or off

The code is available for download to registered Developer Zone users only. See also the white paper on deCarta's Open Architecture for AJAX Draggable Maps.

Java Web Application

Follow the links below. Press or click "Enter"; the default user name and password are pre-populated. Please note that your firewall must allow web traffic on port 8080 (your corporation may block this port, in which case the demo will not work)

This sample application shows how to invoke DDS Web Services from a Java web application. It demonstrates basic (static) map display, changing map style on the fly, panning, zooming, click to re-center, geocoding, route calculation and driving directions. The application shows the XML request generated and the response from DDS Web Services, useful for monitoring communication between the application and DDS Web Services in the Dev Zone.

The application is written using the popular Java Struts web framework and uses JAXB for XML binding. The code is available for download on the Developer Zone.
