Learn all about deCarta´s newly released "deCarta Mobile" LBS platform, powered by Drill Down Server. We´ll walk you through all of the functionality exposed by the open source code (yes, open source code!) and demo the sample reference application freely available on deCarta´s Developer Zone, and help you jump start your LBS development. Don´t miss out on this opportunity to meet the team responsible for the industry´s first complete J2ME LBS API. Is that enough acronyms for you? Mobile Clients

This session introduces deCarta´s Connected Navigation (CNAV) Service, a turn-key solution that connects PNDs with dynamic content and services, such as real-time and predictive traffic, gas prices and local search; providing users with highly valuable information. CNAV-enabled devices command a premium price, generate ongoing revenue, increase customer satisfaction and loyalty, and very importantly, decisively overcome product commoditization.
Developers will learn how they can utilize their existing navigation platform or deCarta´s White-Label Navigation Application with deCarta´s CNAV services to develop and deploy a state-of-the-art, carrier-grade solution in record time.

The last year has been a year of unprecedented progress for the location industry; acquisitions, new phone platforms and increasing use of maps and location data across all markets. It´s also been a year of emerging trends in location-based applications as established companies grow their footprints and newcomers bring new ideas. But as the global economic situation gets more cloudy, will these trends stop short or will they survive? deCarta President and CEO, Kim Fennell leads a panel of venture capitalists and industry analysts to get their opinion and perspective on LBS. What lies ahead for the industry?Venture Capital Panel

deCarta´s patented spatial indexing method is part of the reason for the performance and scalability of software using RMF. Software for handling spatial data can be made more efficient by using deCarta´s spatial keying technology in conjunction with external databases even in cases when using Rich Map Format may not be appropriate. We will discuss how and when this spatial keying technology can be used to advantage, and share with you coming developments that will make use of deCarta´s spatial keys even easier.Leveraging the Power of deCarta's Spatial Keys
Enterprise icon Mobile icon
Rich Map Navigational (RMN) data contains spatial keys, the "secret sauce" that works with and energizes deCarta´s extremely fast client side NavSDK for PNAV and CNAV applications. RMN is a derivative of Rich Map Format (RMF), our industry-leading highly scalable server-side format. RMN is based on the deCarta Uniform Data Model (UDM), our powerful and normalized data model that facilitates translation of most map data formats for use in deCarta-powered applications.
DDS Web Services supports the ability to search and retrieve points of interest in your own relational database. This capability is enabled through the use of Spatial Keys, which can be added to your database table as a single integer column. You can populate the Spatial Keys by using the Web Services geocoder to find the spatial key and POI lat/lon by POI address. If you already have a lat/lon, as is often the case, our reverse geocoder can provide you the spatial key. Once you´ve populated your spatial keys, Web Services can be easily connected to your database, and you can search for POIs by location and attributes using the DirectoryService.
In this session, we will describe the structure of RMN data products and how it differs from the server-side content and format. We will also discuss how to convert your map data into RMN using our rich set of customization tools or through deCarta Professional Services. Additionally, we will walk you through all the steps to set up a third-party database and show how we use this capability ourselves to provide searchable gas prices for our connected navigation service offerings.

Dynamic Content: Is it a Game Changer?
The conventional wisdom is that new content will drive the location market. Is that wishful thinking or will new content really lead to new applications which lead to new users? This panel from across the content spectrum will give their views on what's old, what's new and what will change the game.

Panelists:
John Heltzel, NearByNow
Michael Lawless, DigitalGlobe
Ogi Redzic, NAVTEQ

It´s true, Image Is Everything. Whether it´s on a mobile device or on an Internet page, the style of map image you display should conveniently convey meaningful information that will enable the end-user to quickly make informed decisions about how they´re getting to their destination. At the same time, it should reflect the unique "personality" of your application. The ability to customize image configurations has been made significantly easier with the release of deCarta´s Web Services Image Settings Editor. Join Patrick Kennedy as he walks you through a comprehensive demonstration of this unique tool and its many benefits. You´ll leave the session a virtual Michelangelo of maps! Image Settings

2008 saw the introduction of several new features for Drill Down Server Web Services. One of the most important is the support for a fixed-grid tiling scheme. Fixed-grid tiles have static URL´s which allows for better browser caching, and better support for third-party caching servers like squid. In DDS 4.3.2 SP01, deCarta introduced disk based caching of tiles as a standard Web Services feature. Without any change to your client code, you can opt for Web Services to serve tiles out of an unlimited-sized disk cache, which produces a relatively constant tile-serving time that is limited only by your storage I/O bandwidth. Consequently, you can ratchet up the anti-aliasing and other "expensive" image-rendering features that degrade rendering times. In this talk, we´ll show you how to set up disk-caching, and how you can install prerendered map tarballs into the disk cache. Other exciting new features include route generalization and clipping, as well as a variety of exciting connected navigation services such as the RouteTrafficService which searches for traffic along a route.New Web Services Features, Union Square Room

Going mobile? Attend this session to hear how Nokia is embracing LBS across its products and platforms to meet the needs of consumers, developers and operators. In an addition, you'll hear what tools, technologies and go-to market opportunities we offer developers to create the next emerging location-enabled application.

deCarta´s Traffic Manager extension incorporates real-time and predictive traffic feeds and correlates traffic incident and flow information to a map using Drill Down Server (DDS). Traffic information is then overlaid onto the route-allowing your application to optimize the route by considering changing traffic flow information using real-time or predictive traffic data feeds.
This session will provide an overview of traffic-enabled routing technologies. We´ll cover the architecture, deployment model and traffic feed client for both real-time and predictive traffic feed data handling. We´ll also take an in-depth look at some sample traffic data. We´ll show you how simple it is to leverage the power of Traffic Manager through the deCarta JavaScript API to efficiently enable your web application with traffic.
In support of Connected Navigation (CNAV), deCarta´s Drill Down Server team has added several new features. We will discuss Web Services support for route generalization and clipping, which allows lightweight route vectors to be retrieved by mobile (and web) clients, for use as overlays on a map. We will also discuss the new RouteTrafficService, which allows a mobile client to retrieve multiple routing options which takes traffic into account. We´ll also discuss how the RouteTrafficService allows a client to send a "dehydrated" route to the server, and to receive real-time traffic information along the route. We´ll show how our CNAV client uses this capability to present real-time traffic alerts as a vehicle drives. We´ll explore how these new services can be accessed through a lightweight binary protocol, specifically designed for Connected Navigation.Traffic & Routing
